We Stand in Solidarity with the AAPI Community

The Advertise Purple family expresses our deep and principled solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community who has, for a long time, faced the discrimination and violence perpetuated by systemic racism in the United States.

Devastatingly, this prejudice against members of the AAPI community is nothing new. Throughout history, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have experienced the effects of these injustices in so many ways. All of this has built up to the sharp increase in anti-AAPI hate incidents since the start of the pandemic. Stop Hate AAPI, a coalition responding to and tracking violence targeted at the community, has received 3,795 since March 2020.

On this our stance is clear: We have absolutely no tolerance for racism and the animosity that it breeds. We stand together with the AAPI community and are committed to speaking up and taking action against the growing racism and injustice. At Advertise Purple, we have made an effort to create systemic equality since day one and we will continue to.

“Tolerance and acceptance are core tenets of being a part of Advertise Purple. In the last 12 months, numerous issues of inequality have come to a head in the community that have tested our resolve. It is the responsibility of our fellow colleagues, our fellow citizens, and our fellow humans to speak up, acknowledge inequality, and actively take a stance against it,” says our Founder and President, Kyle Mitnick.

“We’re outraged and heartbroken to see the recent state of affairs and are currently partnering with local AAPI organizations to take steps toward strengthening the community and helping to end this targeted hate. We will continue to stand in solidarity and foster a company that champions diversity and denounces discrimination and hate.”

We recognize our powerful ability as a company with a platform to raise our voices on behalf of the AAPI and BIPOC communities and respond to this violence and hate in a way that informs and brings forth sustainable change.

A lot of this starts with a willingness to educate ourselves and others while spreading awareness. So, here are some resources that we put together to help to learn more about the issues going on, how to navigate them respectfully, and how to become a great ally.

———

For our team, it’s not about taking steps to course-correct everything in light of these recent public events. It’s about the path we’ve been on since the start. We’re proud of our diversity, not just in race and ethnicity, but in beliefs and thoughts. It makes us a better and stronger organization when we come from different places with our own unique skills and talents. That said, we will continue to speak out against racism and partner with our local AAPI community to take action that supports equality, inclusion, and growth.

We encourage everyone reading this to use not only the resources above, but the most powerful tool, their voices, to speak out against racism, learn, and spread awareness in the process. Together, we believe we can work towards creating more unprejudiced, welcoming, and safe environments for all communities.
