Pride Month is usually a pretty joyful time around the AdPurp offices. Our home city of Santa Monica has long been known as a welcoming destination for the LGBTQ community and just a few miles to our east, West Hollywood hosts what we like to think is the best Pride parade and party anywhere in the country.
But this year, there’s something sour that’s going along with the sweetness that we expect to feel during Pride.
From so-called “don’t say gay” laws to book bannings to attacks on healthcare for trans youth, there has been a sustained and concerted attack on the basic rights of LGBTQ Americans across the country.
And while we do take pride in our inclusive hiring practices and in creating a positive and supportive workplace for all of our employees, there’s still only so much we can do as a marketing agency located in Southern California. So with that in mind, we thought that we’d use this blog post to highlight some organizations, resources and groups for people who are interested in supporting LGBTQ rights.
The Trevor Project: Committed to providing suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth, they operate the nation’s only 24 hours crisis and suicide prevention phone line that is staffed by fully trained counselors. The lifeline is both free and confidential and counselors are able to refer callers to local organizations and groups for help. The number for the line in the United States is 1-866-488-7386.
