Landing a Job Mid-Pandemic? 8 AdPurp New-Hires on Doing Just That
I don’t need to supply an introduction on 2020 being a crazy year because if you’re reading this, frankly you are almost certainly already well aware.
What I will say, however, is that here at Advertise Purple, we are leaning away from pessimism and despair and instead towards gratitude. Because, simply put, when times get tough, we stick to what has always worked for us: investing in our winning strategy. What is that you might ask? Easy: great employees.
We felt it made sense to give our 8 newest team members the opportunity to speak on where they came from, what it was like looking for a job in this climate, and to talk a bit about the virtual onboarding process and how it’s gone so far.
From what I heard, things seem to be going smoothly and our new team members are really happy to be on board. Looking forward to eventually meeting them IRL but let’s just go with a rain check on that for now…
Anyway, here in no particular order are the eight:
Becca N
A little background on me: my name is Becca and I am from Sweden (Halmstad to be exact) but grew up primarily in SE Asia. I went to The University of San Diego for college and graduated with a Bachelor in Business Administration. I then spent this past year working in ERP Software Sales. I am excited to be at AdPurp and have been really impressed with the training and on-boarding thus far! Although starting a new job from home, mid-pandemic, is unchartered territory, I think AdPurp has made the most of the experience and I feel ready to hit the ground running in my new role!

I most recently came from a job in the Event Planning/Design industry but previously had a background in Influencer Marketing and was looking for an opportunity in that realm. Working at AdPurp has been amazing so far! Even though everything is all remote, I can already tell what a great work environment it is going to be and how great the company culture is. Everyone is so helpful and encouraging and it is making this transition so easy for us!
Zoe C
Before coming to Advertise Purple, I worked in promotions at a large entertainment company. Everyone here has been so welcoming and accommodating throughout the virtual onboarding process. I’ve already learned a ton and I’m really excited to be a part of the team!
Haley C
I’ve been working from home since mid-March which made for a convenient interview process. I can’t say I’ve ever onboarded a company remotely, but everyone has been so genuine and welcoming that it really has been a smooth transition. It is a bit strange to start a new job without ever even seeing the office or meeting anyone in person, but I’m very much looking forward to both of those things!
Sarah J
A little bit about me: Before working at Advertise Purple, I was an account executive at George P. Johnson, an experiential marketing company. I managed and executed all 64 auto shows for Honda across the country along with other trade shows and races like SEMA and the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. As much as I loved my job and the work I did, I knew I had to move on as COVID took a large hit at live events. I feel beyond lucky to have found a job at Advertise Purple, especially during a pandemic. Being trained virtually was incredibly smooth and felt normal honestly (since this is the new normal). I’m beyond excited to continue the onboarding and grow at AdPurp!”
Erin M
My name is Erin Meyer and I graduated from the University of Oregon with a double major in Public Relations and Advertising. Due to the pandemic I unfortunately lost my job, I spent months filling out applications and interviewing as we all go used to life during COVID and was not having much success. After e-meeting my current boss and a few members of his team I was so excited about the opportunity to work with an innovative company like Advertise Purple. My time with AdPurp has been fantastic, the employees have been nothing but helpful and kind as they are navigating virtual on-boarding of new hires. I wish that we were all able to gather and introduce ourselves in person but we have tried to get to know each other in other ways like virtual game nights and happy hours to connect personally with my new coworkers.

I actually heard about Advertise Purple from a friend, and thought it would be a really good fit for me. I had been working at a Public Affairs firm for the past year and I was ready for a change, but I was nervous about switching jobs in the middle of a global pandemic. Now that I’m here I am so glad that I did!

I feel extremely grateful to be working for such a great company during these challenging times. Before starting my role at the beginning of September, I had just graduated from Northeastern University. It is definitely a crazy time to be graduating during the middle of a pandemic; but, after connecting with the hiring team here, I knew this was the place I was meant to be. During my time at Northeastern, I participated in their co-op program which is full-time work experience for 6 months in which I completed two co-ops at TJX (the head company of TJMaxx, Marshalls, and Homegoods) working as an allocation analyst co-op and buying co-op. Onboarding from home with the help of our great trainer we’ve been able to get the ball rolling and I feel so welcome here. Until we’re back in the office, I’m extremely excited and eager to meet everyone that I’ve spoken to virtually!
