There’s always a lot of talk about the best days and times to post on social media. While it’s true that timing can influence engagement, platforms like TikTok, which doesn’t have a chronological feed, have shifted how to approach posting schedules. As Hootsuite’s November 2024 report says, “Reaching a wide audience on TikTok is not just a matter of when you post. How often you post can also affect how your content is distributed on the platform.” In 2021 TikTok recommended posting one to four times a day to help boost growth, but this may not be possible for every brand, especially those operating with lean teams. However it’s not a steadfast rule. In 2024 some creators and digital marketers are recommending to post three to four times a week, emphasizing quality over quantity.
Hootsuite analyzed over 1 million social posts published between September 2023 and September 2024 to find optimal posting times on TikTok. They identified the best times for maximum engagement during the weekday to be:
- Monday at 3pm
- Tuesday from 3pm to 7pm
- Wednesday at 3pm
- Thursday at 3pm
- Friday at 12pm
The report also looked into trends for the best times to post by specific industries. For consumer goods and retail businesses, the results were:
- Wednesday from 2pm to 5pm
- Friday from 11am to 2pm.
While this information is a great starting point to have in your back pocket, the most reliable way to determine the best times to post is by analyzing your own data. TikTok’s analytics tools provide valuable insights into your audience and post performance. Note the day and time you publish posts then review the KPIs like views, likes, saves, and comments, to identify any patterns. Plus, TikTok’s business suite shows when your followers are most active. This information will help you align your posting schedule with your audience’s behavior.
If you are just starting out on TikTok and don’t have many posts or followers yet, use the recommended times as a testing base while experimenting with different schedules. Monitor results and adjust based on what resonates with your audience.
Remember, TikTok’s algorithm is constantly evolving, so your strategy should also be. Following a consistent schedule that matches your audience’s habits and prioritizing high-quality content are key to sustained growth.
